What is a Rogue Cable Crossover Machine?

A cable crossover machine, also known as a cable crossover station or cable machine, is a piece of strength training equipment commonly found in gyms and fitness centres. It consists of two vertical metal frames or towers with attached pulley systems and weight stacks, along with various cable attachments.

The basic structure of a cable crossover machine typically includes the following components:

Vertical Frames: The machine is supported by two vertical frames or towers that are often made of sturdy steel. These frames are usually adjustable in height to accommodate users of different sizes.

Pulley System: The pulley system consists of multiple pulleys that are positioned at different heights on each frame. These pulleys guide the cables and allow for smooth and controlled movements during exercises.

Weight Stacks: Each frame usually features a weight stack, which is a set of weight plates connected to the pulleys through a cable. The weight stack provides resistance for the exercises and can be adjusted by selecting the desired weight plates.

Cables and Handles: The cables are attached to the weight stacks and threaded through the pulleys. They have handles or attachments at the end, which allow users to grasp and perform various exercises.

Cable crossover machines offer a wide range of exercise possibilities, targeting different muscle groups and movement patterns. Users can perform exercises such as chest flyes, cable crossovers, tricep pushdowns, bicep curls, rows, shoulder raises, and more.

The height, angle, and attachment used on the cables can be adjusted to target specific muscles and achieve different training goals.

The versatility of cable crossover machines makes them popular for strength training, functional training, and rehabilitation exercises. They provide a stable and controlled environment for performing exercises, allowing users to isolate specific muscles, engage the core, and perform movements that mimic real-life activities.

They should be an essential piece of kit for any serious gym.

Rogue CC-1 Cable Crossover Machine

Optimized for larger pro, collegiate and high school training facilities, the Monster CC-1 Cable Crossover combines two of Rogue’s 9-foot CT-1 Cable Towers into one interconnected unit, allowing for a range of additional movements such as cable flys, overhead cable curls, and traditional cable crossovers.

The two stations are spaced 7.25 feet apart and secured together by an extended steel crossmember and mounting brackets. This set-up further enables multiple athletes to safely perform different cable movements within the same space at the same time.

The CC-1 Cable Crossover is manufactured at Rogue’s Reflex facility in Davenport, Iowa, and features a 3×3” 11-gauge steel construction with 6” machined aluminum pulleys, USA MIL Spec cables, adjustable diamond tread footplates, and custom black carabiners.

Users can adjust the weight loads via the 250 LB weight stacks on each tower, which are broken into 10 LB increments with a 2:1 ratio (i.e., with the pin set at 250 LBS, the pull resistance is actually 125 LBS). Protective weight stack shrouds are provided to help avoid pinch points, and two leather tricep straps are included standard.

The 180-degree swivel and adjustability of the pulley assembly sets the CC-1 Cable Crossover apart from many other units on the market. The pulley easily moves up and down on the stainless 2×2 rail through the 16 height settings, better serving multiple athletes in a fast paced facility.

Two Cable Pulley Stations in One

The Monster CC-1 Cable Crossover brings together two of Rogue’s patent-pending CT-1 Cable Towers into a single unit, connected by a 107.25” steel bridge and mounting brackets.

Ideal for larger pro, collegiate, and high school facilities, this set-up allows multiple athletes to perform different cable movements in the same space. The two 9’ tall towers are spaced 87” apart (measuring from low row foot to low row foot), and the total combined footprint of the unit is 180.25” wide by 42” depth.

Made in the USA

Manufacturing of the Monster CC-1 is handled at the Rogue Reflex Fitness facility in Davenport, Iowa.

Each tower station is precision-machined from 3×3” 11-gauge steel, with 6” aluminum pulleys and 250 LB weight stacks. The 1/4” cable itself is made to the same military specifications as aircraft cable; jacketed in nylon for superior flexibility and durability.

The standard finish is a classic MG Black powdercoat. To connect the two tower stations, a 107.25” steel bridge crossmember (with laser-cut holes) and mounting brackets are provided.

Swivel and Adjustability

Custom, precision adjustments make the Monster CC-1 Cable Crossover adaptable to users of any size and to a wide range of exercises, with 16 different height adjustment settings on a 180-degree swivel.

The 250 LB weight stack, as well, offers instant adjustments to any skill level, with a 2:1 ratio in pull resistance and custom shrouds (made from laser-cut 14-gauge steel) to help avoid pinch points.

Rogue FT-1 Functional Trainer Cable Crossover Machine

Rogue’s FT-1 Functional Trainer features two of their CT-1 Cable Tower stations linked together by a 43” Monster Crossmember at the bottom of the unit and one laser-cut Rogue branded Monster Nameplate Crossmember at the top.

This modular, space-efficient unit was inspired by a configuration first devised by U.S. Navy Veteran and garage gym builder Nick Gills.

By combining storage shelves [available at additional cost] between two CT-1 cable columns, users are able to gain tons of storage with dual cables in a relatively small footprint [90.4” x 47”].

The unit can be configured with up to 4 shelves in different varieties (DBs, KBs, bumpers) on the 100” uprights.

The FT-1 Functional Trainer can be assembled as a standalone unit or attached to the back of an existing Monster Rack (with at least 100” uprights).

As a Monster unit, the FT-1 can accommodate the Rogue 43” Monster Rack Storage Panels and all versions of our 43” Monster Single-Post Shelves. The front top crossmember also accommodates the addition of a Monster Crown Pull-Up Bar or Solo Mount Pull-Up Bar.

Two CT-1 Cable Towers

These precision-built columns enable a wide range of cable machine exercises, including rows, curls, tricep pushdowns, cable crossovers, and more.

Users can adjust the weight load via the 250 LB weight stack, which is broken into 10 LB increments with a 2:1 ratio. The single handle pulley assembly features a 180-degree swivel and can be quickly set up high or low depending on the workout, utilizing the knurled stainless steel adjustment handle.

There are 16 different height adjustment settings on the 2×2 rail, and with acetal pads inside the handle assembly, users can easily move the swivel up and down without damaging the stainless slide tube.

Big Storage Potential, Small Footprint

It’s set apart by its modularity, as the incorporation of Monster uprights and crossmembers makes the unit compatible with a wide assortment of attachments and accessories.

Effectively then, the FT-1 is equivalent in width and storage capacity to a Monster 4-tier storage rack, while simultaneously providing TWO fully functional cable pulley stations.

Formed and welded steel adapter brackets set each of the CT-1s in this configuration at a 45-degree angle.

In addition to chest flyes and cable crossovers, you can perform exercises such as tricep pushdowns, bicep curls, rows, and lateral raises. The ability to change attachments and positions makes cable machines versatile and suitable for a range of exercises, making it an efficient choice for a full-body workout.

Core Engagement: Cable exercises require you to engage your core muscles to stabilize your body throughout the movements. This constant activation of the core muscles helps improve overall core strength, stability, and balance.

Functional Training: Cable crossovers mimic movements that are similar to everyday activities or sports-specific motions. By incorporating functional training with cable machines, you can improve your overall athleticism and enhance performance in activities that require strength, stability, and coordination.

Progression and Adaptability: Cable machines often have a weight stack that can be easily adjusted, allowing you to gradually increase the resistance as you become stronger. This adaptability makes cable crossover machines suitable for individuals of different fitness levels, from beginners to advanced lifters.

Remember, it’s important to use proper form and technique when training with cable crossover machines to maximize the benefits and minimize the risk of injury.

Tricep Pushdowns

Attach a straight bar or rope handle to the high pulleys. Stand facing the machine with your elbows bent and tucked at your sides. Extend your arms downward, focusing on using your triceps to push the handles down until your arms are fully extended. Slowly return to the starting position and repeat.

Bicep Curls

Attach a straight bar or handle to the low pulleys. Stand facing away from the machine with your arms fully extended, palms facing forward. Keep your elbows tucked at your sides and curl the handles up toward your shoulders, contracting your biceps. Lower the handles back down in a controlled manner and repeat.

Shoulder Raises

Attach D-handles or rope handles to the low pulleys. Stand facing away from the machine with your arms by your sides, palms facing in. Raise your arms out to the sides, keeping a slight bend in your elbows, until they reach shoulder height. Slowly lower them back down and repeat.

Lat Pulldowns

Attach a straight bar or wide-grip handle to the high pulleys. Sit facing the machine with your thighs secured under the pads. Grasp the bar with a wide overhand grip and pull it down to your upper chest while leaning back slightly. Pause briefly and then return to the starting position in a controlled manner.

Rows
