What are J Cups?
They are sturdy metal hooks that attach to power cages, squat racks and rigs in order to hold the barbell in place.
What are J Cups Used For?
They allow the barbell to be held in place at the desired level for the particular lift.
They form the solid resting point from which the bar is unracked before a set, then re-racked once the set is complete.
They slot into the drilled holes on the rack and are easy to slide in and out in order to lock them higher (for Squats, Overhead Presses, Snatch Balances etc) or lower for Bench Pressing.
What are J Cups Made Of?
They are generally made from durable bent steel lined with a plastic UHMW coating to protect the rack and bar knurling.
However, this will vary from brand to brand.

Rogue Monster J Cups
Rogue offers three types for use with your Monster Series rack or rig.
Monster Standard
3” width, 7-¾” height, ⅜” plate steel, 15 LB Laser cut and precision bent, with UHMW plastic on the face to protect the knurling on your bar and UHMW plastic on the back to protect the rack from chipping.
Monster Sandwich
1.5” width, 10” height, ⅜” plate steel, 18 LB UHMW plastic core offers full protection against your barbell knurling.
It also has UHMW plastic on the backside to protect the rack from chipping.
Monster 2” Sandwich
2” width, 10” height, ⅜” plate steel, 20 LB The side plates fit into a recessed, machined plastic core (2″ wide) to prevent metal-to-metal contact.
The hardware (that connects the plastic to the side plates) is also recessed, preventing the bar or a user’s hand from scraping against them.
Welds are inside the side plates for a clean edge, and UHMW plastic is featured on the clasp and back plate to prevent damage to the uprights.
A thin piece of rubber on the side of the clasp also softens contact between the clasp and upright when it is swung into place.
